Can't really give you an exact correct answer without knowing more information such as what it is that you want them for. Do you want the chips just for playing with, more fancy style ones to play with but still appear impressive, or do you want to collect them or want ones which will be quite valuable in the future? The answer to this question will greatly influence the kind of poker chips you should purchase.

I have a plastic set of chips but only because I tend to lose things alot and with younger kids running around the house I don't have to worry about them getting broken or wrecked, and they only cost $3.00 for the set so it was nice and cheap, didn't burn a hole in my wallet. Not the most attractive looking things in the world though, you get what you pay for, so in my case I got cheap and nasty lol.

I am starting to collect poker chip sets too, I am looking to collect themed chip sets. What you buy depends on what you want to use them for as well as what kind of money you are looking to spend, the higher your budget the higher quality the chips will be, but it all depends what you want them for.

Hi, sorry I didn't think to be more specific when I posted my question. I am wanting the chips just for playing with at home, play a few hands with some friends on a weekly basis. I have been told that the clay or something like that composite chips are good. Is this true? My budget is anywhere under $60. Also there is usually at least 10 of us playing with a max of about 16. Thanks. I don't want anything too cheap and nasty but I don't want anything that will break the bank.

i bought myself a set of poker chips this week, they are plastic but pretty sturdy ones, very thick and seemingly heavy duty, I got a total of 200 chips, only cost me $30 on reduced "for quick sale" price due to being one of only 3 sets left. They seem to be able to do the trick, they don't look too cheap and nasty but they don't look expensive either, They will do the trick, but if you want something more appealing visually then you may want to spend abit more than what I did, regular price on them before the mark down was $45.

Yes clay ones are too easy to break if you drop them or mistreat them, especially if you are playing poker in more of a party atmosphere and are a little or alot intoxicated. The wooden variety are much more expensive although very hard wearing but if it is only for playing at home in a few friendly games and aren't for show or anything like that then I personally wouldn't bother, i'd just go with the better structured plastic variety. Probably only cost you $50 at the most and heaps of department stores stock poker sets. If not then maybe online stores or, typically, ebay.

300 poker chips in a decent grade of plastic, with ok weight and of good quality, in a carry case made of metal, with 2 decks of cards (the chips are of the "dice" design) will cost you around $55 on the internet on sale, at full price you are looking at having to pay around $99 online if they aren't on sale, this is not including shipping costs. What they would charge you in the retail stores for this kind of a set I am not really sure sorry.

Have you considered taking a look at other sites such as ebay, craigslist etc? Surely on those there are bound to be hundreds of poker chip sets on sale and probably at pretty good prices too, and if the auction listing provides you with the brand of the chips then you can google them before you place your bid to see if they are of any good quality. It would be great too if you can find an ebay "powerseller" because these sellers usually have stuff at really low prices and heaps of buyers who have left positive feedback because they are happy with the products, also these powerseller auctions also usually have very descriptive listings that go into heaps of detail, they'll probably give you the size and weight of the chips and everything, the weight itself should help give you an idea of if any of them are any good.
