Lady Gaga hit "Poker Face" be used by Palms casino for Ad

Postby Gregn » Mon 14 Dec 2009 01:37

The Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is improving it's reputation as one of the hip locations to be seen and have introduced a new advertising campaign which will feature the well known Lady Gaga hit "Poker Face.". The advertisment can be found on KWU televisions website in vegas and puts the song along side some of the best features that the hotel and casino has to offer to potential patrons. The ad places alot of focus on the nightlife which occurs at the hotel such as the hugely popular Playboy Club, the Fantasy Towers and a variety of other options for both entertainment and gambling. At the end of the ad the song ends in an abrupt manner with the tag line of "Show Us Your Poker Face". THe owner of the Palms, George Maloof, stated " We feel that this is a special and unique opportunity to connect the Palms brand with one of the most respected and talented artists of our time."
Whilst the advertising campaign appears to focus only on the Palms itself there is another hidden motive for the promotion, Lady Gaga is set to hold a performance at the Palms Pearl Theater in just a matter of days on December 17th and December 18th. Lady Gaga certainly does have a effective poker face with the song earning her fame, money and noteriety and the ad is aimed to do the same for the Palms Hotel and Casino.

I agree, that song was driving me up the wall, my wife was in love with it when it first came out and she would play it two or three times a day, sometimes more, I don't know if that song will make the advertisment get stuck in my head and I am not sure if the song will make me think of Palms casino but one thing that I do know for sure is that everytime that ad comes on I will be changing the channel or turning the volume off because that song is one thing that certainly will get stuck in my head and will drive me up the wall all day long and if my wife hears it then she will probably want to hear the whole song and start playing it on the stereo too so I am not looking forward to this ad campaign.

Although there is no doubt in my mind that this advertising campaign will attact some more clients to the casino, mainly clients of a younger demographic though in my opinion, i do have to wonder whether or not the decision that they have made to include such a mind numbingly irritating song which plays over and over again in your head like a broken record will end up actually acting like somewhat of a double ended double bladed sword and will end up causing then a whole heap of damage at the same time as bringing in a few extra players? I would be the kind of person would would deliberately stay away from a place purely because of their advertising annoying me. Then again though admittedly I am pretty easy to annoy.

P P P poker face....
Yeah its both annoying and yet memorable which just makes it even more annoying. There are so many other songs that are referring to gambling and poker that they could have chosen rather than this, yes i admit that i don't think that "The Gambler" would have been a great song to use for an ad campaign purely because it doesn't really make me want to gamble, it makes me want to sit back and sing, but still there are heaps more songs that they could have used rather than this one, now, just like many others, i am likely to avoid the ad as much as possible.

I will admit that i like lady gaga, and i actually do still like the poker face song despite the constant air time it got but at the same time i don't think that the song would make me want to go anywhere in particular just for it being on an ad for the venue. I don't like the song enough for it to be able to have that kind of power over me and i don't think that there is any song that could make me want to go anywhere really, although it does make me think of all those years ago when allegedly they had subliminal messages planted in television ads to make viewers more inclined to purchase something or go somewhere that was being advertised.

I can't stand Lady Gaga or any of her music, never have liked her and i can't see myself starting to like her or her music any time ever in the future, for me to like her and her music in the future it would have to be some unreal awesome song to rope me into it all, and her song poker face being on the ads for the palms casino would only have one effect on me, and that effect is that it would make me stay away from that casino at all costs, no matter what happened i would not step foot inside that casino whist they had that song or any lady gaga song on their tv ad, i can't stand it, it makes it feel like my ears are going to start bleeding and i'd be paranoid that i'd be in there having a great time only to have my poker game ruined by that coming on in the casino.

This song for me personally would act as more of a deterrant than an attractant to the casino. It was played too much, it got total over kill when it first was released, tv, radio, clubs, could not possibly find any escape from the song unless you walked around with your ears blocked for the majority of the time, and even then the song usually somehow managed to find a way to get stuck in your head and drive you crazy. Now hearing it on tv for the ad will make my ears bleed. I will never step foot in there whilst there is a risk i will hear that song, won't watch the ad either, could have come up with a better ploy, seriously, it's a casino, they have a whole lot of money, they can pay their advertising and marketing teams a whole lot of cash, i think they are being paid too much because the job they are doing isn't great to come up with this, maybe time to hire some replacements.

I am one person who does like the music of this cooky lady gaga, although it seems there are only a couple of us here that do lol, but although i am a fan of both her and her music and her costumes etc i am not too fussed over the poker face song being used for the commercial. Will a lady gaga song with references to poker and the use of general poker terminology make me go into that casino to play poker? Nah probably not. Will it make me go into the casino at all? No not likely. I am a fan of her but just because she is on the commercial doesn't mean it will make me want to go there, I choose where i go because of the reputation of the casino, the look of it, the popularity of it, not because of who has a song on their commercial.

If lady gaga keeps getting that plastic surgery done to her face no one really will be able to read her face at all which will make her poker face ring so much more true. I do not mind the song but i am not a big fan of it either. I am more so in the middle about it all. I do not feel that having her song on the ad for the casino would make me want to go there, i do not think that it will make me stay away from the casino either, i think that for me it depends on what the casino is like, if it is a great casino i would go there no matter what their ads are like, where as if it is a bad one there is no amount of marketing ploys that could get me to step foot into the place.

Aww come on guys she isn’t that bad, even with the new nose job. Her songs are getting less annoying i suppose. I am not sure what it is exactly about poker face that is such an annoyance. Maybe it is the repetitive nature of the song, but then again there are heaps of songs that are like that and yet still pretty popular. Maybe if they gave the song a rest for a while and we didn’t hear it for a few months then we would be able to tolerate it again, maybe even like it again. You have to look at it from another point of view as well though, even if that song is annoying and no one like it when ever you hear it now it will make you think of the casino and how they have poker face as the song on their ad, and so long as it is making you think of that casino it is doing it’s job. The sold purpose of that song on the ad is to get people to think about the casino and they will use what ever methods they can come up with in order to do that, no matter how annoying their methods may be. Hope that they are paying her well to use her song for the ads, can help her pay for what ever she plans on having as her next plastic surgery and she can buy some more weird outfits with it. Got to admit, and this isn’t to be offensive, it is just being honest, she is not the most attractive faced person around so her outfits and masks and hairstyles and all of that really do direct attention away from her face and to other features to look at instead so she has it all figured out.
