I have never been lucky enough to even see snow in real life, only in televison and pictures, and I definately have never seen lakes and rivers and stuff frozen over which completely eliminates the chances of me ever having had the experience of ice fishing. The closest I have even gotten to ice fishing was getting a box of fish fingers out of the deep freezer at home. It is this and my current urge to get out and travel for a while, experience new things and meet new people. combined with my love for poker, that has convinced me that I must go to this polar poker challenge so right now i am making plans to get it all organised for myself and a couple of friends to all join up and make a road trip out of it. Going to be a wicked time for sure. See you all there!

Polar poker challenge, poker and fishing combined? If my husband read this he would be jumping around the house bouncing of the walls and hanging from the rafters, these are his two favourite activites and never before has he been able to do them both in the one place in an actual tournament setting. This is something that he would surely love to attend and i guess that since our anniversary is around that time then maybe i should organise for us to go there and get the accommodation and travel sorted out so that we can go but keep it all a surprise from him. That would probably be one of the best anniversary gifts that i could ever give him lol and because i know that my husband is not the only one who is that enthusiastic about poker and fishing i am sure that there are many other wives who are probably planning the same surprise for their husbands so the attendance levels should be pretty good. Just have to get in early and book your accommodation before it is too late and all booked out, then i would have to go camping i guess lol.

This could work out very good for me, i love poker and so does my boyfriend but he is a little different to me because i for one, love to go fishing and have been ice fishing a fair few times with my dad when i was growing up, my boyfriend on the other hand really does not like fishing one bit and has never been ice fishing, he is a little funny and picky lol he is paranoid about holes in the ice and he does not like to pluck fish from the ocean when they are and i quote “just swimming around like they would on any other day minding their own business.” But when it comes to playing poker he is really really good at it and his fussy and picky nature tends to come in handy and pay off, so this would be good for us to go to, he can play his poker, i can go fishing. We both win and get to enjoy ourselves so you can count me in!

This would be a nice change to the usual winter time events that we see. I love winter and i love the snow don’t get me wrong, but after a while it all gets to be a little boring and repetitive, everyday going out and building a snowman or making snow angels or having snowball fights or going ice skating. At least this will be something out of the ordinary and something that you could occupy yourself with for the whole entire day and not get the slightest bit bored. It will be cold thought that is for sure lol so make sure that you take what ever you may need in order to keep warm. My girlfriend gets cold rather easily and even when i am walking around in a tshirt and shorts she will be walking around in jeans and a long sleeved shirt because she is cold, so make sure you pack plenty of winter warmies to keep the heat in. I do not think that i could convince her to come with me though, she usually encourages me when i play but i think that she would realise that me being in a place where i can not only play in a poker tournament but i can also go fishing would mean that i would not be easily distracted and that i would be there for quite some time. I guess maybe she can finally have a night at home watching those chick flicks that i try to avoid like the plague lol.

Hmm let’s hope that they are not going to be serving too much alcohol there and that they wont be allowing people to bring their own to this event or it could turn into an absolute disaster. I love to watch drunk people, they amuse me alot when they are staggering around and can’t seem to co ordinate their eyes let alone their feet, but if they have alcohol at this kind of an event there is a real risk of proper trouble, drunk people have terrible balance which could lead to the tables getting knocked over and they have a tendancy to pass out which could lead to them passing out during a game or on a table but worst of all they have a tendancy to not really pay much attention to their surroundings and things such as where they are going which could quite easily result in someone falling down or getting stuck in one of the holes that are cut for the ice fishing which could be terrible. The event does sound great though so i hope that they are covering all bases as far as the safety of others goes.

I can see what you mean, as a general rule it seems to be that where ever there is snow and ice there are people slipping and falling down on it. Sober people slip and fall on the ice and snow everyday in winter so i would hate to see the result of someone being heavily intoxicated and attempting to walk around on the ice and the snow, it would be funny but they could also really hurt themselves and as you can imagine there would probably be some kind of lawsuit to follow for the injuries that they sustain, everyone is out for a buck these days no matter how stupid their behaviour was that caused the accident to occur in the first place. I do think that they would have already thought of all of these possibilities though and have taken the appropriate action to make sure that such things do not occur at the event, they have many things to organise and consider when they are setting these kinds of things up and we do need to give them credit for all the hard work and time that they put into making them a success and we also should give them credit for finally coming up with something that is a little out of the ordinary, something nice and different for us to enjoy.

I know only a little about poker, actually i joined up with this forum in order to learn more about the game and to find some tips etc. And when it comes to fishing i know practically nothing, and that is any kind of fishing whether it be ice fishing or fly fishing or anything like that, i am completely a blank canvas in regards to all of it, so this event is a great opportunity for me. It gives me the chance to meet new people who like poker and who i could learn from and it gives me the chance to see the game in action, it also allows me to see this ice fishing and to learn about how to do it and everything else about it that i otherwise would probably not find out about since where i live it rarely ever rains let alone snows. Not only will i get to learn about it but i will also get to try it out as well which will make it a much better experience and well worth the travel to go to it.
