What is 7 card stud?

Postby omahaplaya » Tue 10 Nov 2009 04:49

I have been checking out some online casinos for games of poker and the majority of them provide the usual, poker and texas hold em and the other popular styles, but I have also come across a few which offer 7 card stud. What is it and how is it played?

7 card stud is one of the most popular variants of poker found in online casinos, there is normal 7 card stud and also Hi Lo 7 card stud, i will assume you just want to know about the normal version so I will fill you in on what i know about it. 4 to 8 players usually play, Seven Card Stud uses antes rather than blinds, before being dealt any cards all players must place an ante into the pot, the dealer then gives each player one card at a time until everyone has three cards, The first two cards are dealt face down, while the third card is dealt face up, Face up cards in Seven Card Stud are individual cards for each player, they are not community cards, the player with the lowest up card is forced to make a bring in bet. If there is a tie for the lowest card, the tie is broken by suit, strongest suit is Clubs followed by diamonds, hearts and the weakest suit is spades. Play continues around the table in a clockwise motion. Each player has the option of folding, calling or raising, this occurs until every player has been able to act. (4th street) The dealer gives each player another face up card, play then begins with the player who has the highest showing poker hand.Fifth street play is next and is the exact same as fourth street in that all players receive an additional face up card and then play begins with the player who has the highest showing poker hand. In the last round the dealer gives all remaining players one final card in a face down position, Play begins with the player who has the highest ranking poker hand, The last player to bet or raise must reveal their cards first and then all challenging players can choose to either muck their hand in the event that cannot win, or they can reveal their hand if it is powerful enough to take the pot.The winning hand is then determined by the dealer and the winner gets the pot.

And then as well as all the info you were given above, the game of 7 card stud also has plenty of different variants as well, variants such as show five-the good the bad and the ugly- Pansy- Black mariah- Suicide- Declare- and Homicide. It really does appear to be a really fun game, I haven't played it yet but I'll give it a go sometime soon I think.
