What is better? Online poker or in brick and mortar casinos?

Postby samantha88 » Tue 10 Nov 2009 05:41

Well I want to start playing poker, I have played a few hands just with friends on the odd weekend, betting only for m&m's but I would really like to play for some real cash, this brings me to the dilemma. Which is better? Playing poker in an online casino or at an online poker site or playing poker at a real life brick and mortar style casino?

I guess that would ultimately come down to the individual persons preferances. I prefer to play online purely because it is much more convienient for me, I work days and at nights my partner works so I need to be home to care for the children, I can't go out to a casino therefore it is much easier for me to play online, where I can still stay at home with the children and do housework etc but can play a few hands as well without having to leave the house.

I play poker in person in the actual casino. This is my preferance purely because I spend a fair amount of time at home already as it is so once a week I head out to the casino with No credit or atm cards on me, just a set amount of cash to work with, and play as many hands as I can until either my cash runs out or I feel that I have made a nice profit for the night and should call it quits. I never take extra money with me, Only take what I am willing to gamble and by leaving my cards at home I can not make any impulse bets. I do it for the atmosphere, the chance to get out of the house once a week and have some fun me time.

It depends on whether you play for the atmosphere or the convienience. Whether you trust playing online or whether you prefer the "surely safe" reputation of the casino, whether you believe that online casinos are rigged and if you believe that poker dealers in casinos are dodgy. I think you can find pros on both versions as well as cons on both versions. I have tried both, but not enough times to be able to definitively ascertain which one i prefer.

I am just startin out in the game, haven't been game enough to play at any real "In person" kind of casinos so I have only played online which will probably make me a little biased or something I suppose. I find that playing online is pretty easy for me being new to it all, I don't feel stressed out or pressured or in any real hurry to make a decision to what I am going to do with my cards as in Raising or folding or anything which is a good thing, I feel that if I played at a real casino I would probably feel pressured.

For me personally, it all depends on how im feeling at the time. The mood im in. If im feeling like heading out for some fun and getting a little dressed up then I head off to the real casinos in person to play a few hands and have a good time, usually with a group of friends. If however i am feeling laid back, like playing some poker but having a relaxing time, maybe ordering a pizza for dinner and sitting around at home in my comfy pjs to put my feet up and play some poker after a long hard day at work then i choose to go for the online poker instead because it allows me to do exactly that, come home, order a delivery meal for dinner, have a nice bath, get into my comfy pj's and get my dinner when it arrives, sit back in the reclined position of the computer and put my feet up, eat my dinner and play my poker all at home, I tell you what, for me that is a great way to spend a night at home.

I have just recently been involved in an accident, i've broken my left leg and fractured my right leg in 4 places, essentially I am in a wheelchair now so I can't really go to the casino as convieniently as I could before since now I can't drive and I need to rely on some one else to take me around the place where ever I want to go so online poker has now become the only way that I play at the moment. I spent a fair amount of time researching a few poker sites before selecting one, just checking out reviews, forums etc to see what people were saying about the sites at various different websites to hopefully help me pick a good one that wasn't going to rip me off, there are a heap of dodgy poker and casino internet sites out there and if you don't do the research you could find yourself handing your money over to one of them on a regular basis. I find it is pretty good playing online, I can play comfy at home and I can leave when ever I wish, it is really a good way to play. And I got a debit mastercard too so I don't need to worry about it as much because it only has money in it when I put money in it and that is only when I plan on transferring it anyway so i'm happy with it.
