I would get bored too and I can see myself going and finding some kind of hobby to preoccupy me during the time where I have nothing to do. Some time to yourself would seem great at first but I guess that after a while it would just be boring. I wouldn't spend time playing gambling style games online though and putting my family into a position where there is financial difficulty though, I think that is both very wrong and could have severe consequences not only financially for the family but also relationship wise. I am not too sure about the comment that women like to quickly forget any emotional distress though, my wife never forgets anything I don't think.

I can see how women can be more addicted to it. Some women get into it purely because their husbands are really into it so then the woman goes and takes it up in order to share it as a common interest with her husband. Funny when the woman gets better than her husband at playing poker though. I don't quite see how peer pressure will lead women into being addicted to gambling online though, it's not really as though I have encountered any women sitting there playing online poker because their kids are behind them nagging them to play. Winning at online gambling, or any gambling for that matter, always brings a feeling of excitement and fun, no matter what gender the person playing is. I think some people are just more likely to become addicted to things than others, not just because of their genders. Story does not say whether she did any testing on men either.

I can see how everyday housewives can get addicted, but I can see them being more susceptable to getting addicted to anything really, not just to gambling online. Mostly in my opinion because of a boredom factor. There is only so much you can do at home every day, I should know, I am a full time mother and housewife and with all of my children at school during the day I find that there isn't much to do once the errands, laundry and cleaning is done, other than to watch television and that gets boring after a while so online gambling would lure housewives because it gives them something to do, and then the possibility for financial gain just makes it even better for them.

I think some people do get hooked on the money they win, ignoring the money that they spend and lose and just focusing on what they win. It is kind of like they get real excited when they win but when they lose they just pretend that it did not happen. This could really end up being something like the gambler is winning $200 a day but spending $800 a day to get to that $200, so ultimately although they focus on the fact that they made $200, they are ignoring the fact that they have lost $600 to get that money, making the whole day a loss and not a profit. Some people just live in that denial. I am a housewife and stay at home mom, I don't have enough time in the day to develop an online gambling addiction. Maybe these women just need to find some kind of hobby that doesn't risk so much money to replace gambling with.

I think that it is really sad to see people forming addictions to anything, including online gambling. I think that it is probably easier for housewives because of the boredom that they may have, and it would probably be even more addictive for housewives whose husbands work away a lot and may not be home for a few weeks at a time or something like that. It's not the end of the world for them though, they could just take steps to stop playing, such as disconnecting the internet or something like that, I don't think I can see myself ever getting addicted to anything, well except for caffeine, but not something such as gambling.

Right now i could not see myself doing that, or being able to justify it, there is never a way to really justify a gambling addiction of any kind, only excuses for it. If i was a full time stay at home housewife and my children were all in school in the day and my husband was at work and it was just me by myself at home through the day then i could see how i could find myself snared in the trap of an online gambling addiction if money permitted me to, like if my husband was working a highly paid job and we as a family were well off when it comes to finances. Otherwise though, especially when you consider the financial situation of many families in these times due to the economic conditions that we are facing, i do not see how many families can afford for anyone to be gamblind, especially in excess enough to be causing financial strain on the family. Anyone gambling excessively in these times when they can barely scrape by week to week should not be gambling at all and really do have a problem. Keep the important things the focus in your mind, food, shelter, electricity, gas etc, the things you need, the luxuries should be the last things on your list.
